Burberry in the City

This year London Fashion Week promises to celebrate its 25th anniversary with the shows of the best designers.

A couple of days ago the world of fashion was shaken with the news of Burberry’s return to London in this year’s London Fashion Week in September. The brand that preferred to hold its shows in Milan will present the new Burberry Prorsum spring/ summer 2010 collection on the final day of London Fashion Week.

London Fashion Week is well known for presentation of collections by promising young designers as long as the stage shows there are less expensive and Londoners appear to be more open-minded than the citizens of the other fashion capitals. Forever young and forever crazy Vivienne Westwood was probably the only well known brand name that never failed to fit well in the catwalk schedule of LWF.

However, the return of Burberry brings new kind of revival to the never-ending discussions of the celebration of LWF’s 25th anniversary that were first started when in March it was confirmed that Somerset House will become the new venue for the event instead of National History Museum. It was the first sign that “anniversary” was not just a word for the stuff crew. According to Harold Tillman, chairman of the British Fashion Council, this year’s LFW will be “showcasing the best of British talent: iconic, established and new”. And since Burberry is in it, all eyes are on the internationally-based British labels to see who else will return in September.
